Apple, Google targeted by Utah’s first-in-nation app store law

UTAH’S APP STORE LAW, a first-of-its-kind, secured the signature of Gov. Spencer Cox (R) Wednesday. The measure requires Apple, Google and other app store operators to determine the ages of Utah users and provide guardrails for minors.

  • App stores are required to check user ages and require parental permission when users under 18 download apps and make purchases. App store providers must give age and parental consent information to app developers.
