Arkansas Ten Commandments Law Ban Extends to New School District

An Arkansas school district was temporarily enjoined Friday from implementing the state’s law requiring the Ten Commandments be displayed in elementary and secondary school classrooms and libraries.

In this case five other state public school districts have been barred from enforcing Arkansas Act 573 after Judge Timothy L. Brooks held the law likely violates the students’ First Amendment rights and granted a preliminary injunction. Louisiana is appealing to the Fifth Circuit to overturn an injunction blocking it from enforcing a similar law requiring public schools to display the King James Bible version of the commandments.
