FOOD AND BEVERAGE INFLUENCE GROUPS are pouring funds into lobbying campaigns as the Trump administration and at least a dozen states seek to block federal food aid recipients from using benefits to purchase sugary products. The trade association that lobbies for Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and other non-alcoholic drink makers spent $1.7 million in the first half of 2025—more than double the amount spent during the same period last year.
