Social media platforms would be required to warn users about the mental health risks of using the technology under legislation cleared Friday by the California legislature.
The state Assembly approved changes by a 47-5 vote on legislation (AB 56) by Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D) that would require platforms to display a warning each time an underage user accesses the site, then after three hours of use, and hourly thereafter. The state Senate earlier passed the bill 29-5 on Thursday.
