California lawmakers are working to resolve a long-standing debate over how the state should handle law enforcement use of facial recognition technology after a statewide ban expired last year.
Assemblymember Phil Ting (D) — the original sponsor of the state’s ban on police using the technology — is pushing a measure (AB 1814) to put some rules around its use as none are currently in place. Lawmakers have until end of August to pass the bill before adjourning for the year.
