Bill Seeks to Override State Privacy Laws
Laws in states such as Kentucky, Texas and Virginia that give consumers data privacy protections would be overriden by legislation unveiled in Congress today, Oma Seddiq reports.
The bill, crafted by a House Republican working group, would let consumers review, correct, and delete personal data online. It includes carve outs to protect young users. It seeks to mirror some existing laws while replacing state-by-state regulation.
Companies would have to obtain consent from users before processing sensitive information, minimize collection of user data, and let people opt out of targeted advertising. ...
