Florida transgender inmates in newly unsealed documents say their care was altered after Gov. Ron DeSantis was questioned about their treatment by a news outlet in the months leading up to his presidential campaign.
Motions opposing a protective order were unsealed Tuesday in a lawsuit claiming the state violated trans inmates’ constitutional rights. The documents point to evidence obtained in discovery showing prison officials were encouraged to change the state’s hormone therapy policy after a reporter from the Daily Signal, a conservative news site, asked DeSantis (R) for a comment.
