New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is relying on a former Obama administration official to help sell skeptical lawmakers and the public on her $400 million plan to move the Empire State into national leadership on artificial intelligence.

John King Jr., the chancellor of the State University of New York, has emerged as a key voice in support of the budget proposal through appearances in the media and at the state Capitol in Albany ahead of the April 1 budget deadline, which will likely be extended.
