House AI Bill Would Preempt State Laws

A highly anticipated congressional framework to promote and regulate AI would override state laws, prioritize research and development, and create targeted guardrails, Oma Seddiq reports.

The 269-page discussion draft from House Energy and Commerce Committee members Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.) and Lori Trahan (D-Mass.), obtained by Bloomberg Government, would create a national standard that preempts recently passed state laws in New York and California that require companies to publish safety protocols and security incidents.
