Major changes to California’s novel law allowing workers to sue their employers over labor code violations on behalf of the state were passed by the state legislature Thursday as part of an agreement between unions and industry.
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is likely to sign the changes after helping broker the compromise. As part of the deal, business groups will withdraw a ballot measure that would have repealed the law, known as the Private Attorneys General Act, or PAGA.
