New York lawmakers will extend state budget negotiations beyond an April 1 deadline as issues such as housing, education, and health care remain barriers to reaching a spending deal expected to top $233 billion, a key legislator said Wednesday.
Negotiations have reached the “middle of the middle,” state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D) said at a press conference. Her chamber will likely pass a budget extender early next week to keep state government running as talks continue.
