New York would become the first state to make AI-powered chatbots warn users of potential inaccuracies under legislation state lawmakers moved on Tuesday.
The Senate Internet and Technology Committee passed the bill (SB 9450) and the measure could move out of committee in the Assembly as soon as next week.
Legislators introduced the chatbot measure after a series of controversies in New York involving chatbots, including a Meta system that spread fake sexual harassment allegations against state lawmakers on Facebook. Other states are considering similar legislation.
