A measure that would have placed restrictions on AI-generated deepfakes will not be included in the New York state budget, according to a person familiar with negotiations, who spoke on condition of anonymity to talk about the closed-door talks.
The state Senate and Assembly successfully pushed the proposal out of the budget by arguing the topic is too complicated and needs to be addressed as a standalone measure. Housing policy remained the top barrier to a final deal on a spending plan expected to top $233 billion.
