NY Moves to Restrict Retail Surveillance Pricing: States of Play

New York lawmakers are building upon a 2025 law that requires companies to notify customers when they price items with an algorithm based on their personal data, this time targeting the retail shelf, Raga Justin reports.

  • State Sen. Michael Gianaris (D) and Assemblymember Michaelle Solages (D) are sponsoring legislation that would curb the ability of groceries and drug stores to use automated pricing to assess personalized costs for consumers.
