STATE LAWS COMPLICATE BOY SCOUT SETTLEMENTS as tens of thousands of Boy Scouts sexual abuse survivors are watching the group’s historic $2.46 billion settlement inch along, leaving many fearing they’ll die without getting their full compensation.

  • More than 60,000 middle-aged and elderly men filed claims, but only about half have received any payout—and most have gotten far less than expected—as the bankruptcy trust faces appeals and drawn-out fights with insurers. Victims awaiting hundreds of thousands of dollars have been sent only 1.5% of their payouts, and more than 2,000 have died waiting for their claims to be processed.
