States Clamp Down on Global Forced Labor in Government Contracts

Companies seeking state government contracts are poised to face heightened scrutiny over forced labor in their global supply chains.

A new law in Utah (H.B. 404) restricts public procurement of products made using forced labor while a similar measure in Florida (H.B. 1331) is awaiting the governor’s signature. Arizona legislation would prohibit such labor practices for government-purchased electric vehicles or components. The broader bills received bipartisan support while some Democrats have criticized Arizona’s narrow approach.
