States Face Service Disruptions Amid Global CrowdStrike Upheaval

States across the country grappled Friday with disruptions from the global tech outage in trying to provide services to their residents from emergency operations to driver’s licenses.

Forty-one US states use CrowdStrike, the cybersecurity firm responsible for the outage, according to its website. It manages services ranging from 911 systems to commuter trains.

The reliance by states on the company made them particularly vulnerable to a faulty software update to systems using Microsoft Windows, which has caused global interruptions to transportation systems and other economic activities.
