States see public health challenges from RFK Jr.’s cuts

TWENTY-THREE STATES SUED the federal government Tuesday to stop the Trump administration from clawing back about $11 billion previously allocated for public health, mental health, and addiction services.

  • The complaint filed in Rhode Island says cuts announced March 24 by the Department of Health and Human Services will have devastating consequences for communities throughout the country.
  • HHS said the cuts were warranted because the funding was provided through laws related to Covid-19. The states, joined by the District of Columbia, say the end of the pandemic isn’t a lawful reason under the Administrative Procedure Act to pull the money back. ...
