The Trump administration is formally proposing to roll back wastewater limits for coal-fired power plants.
On Thursday afternoon, the Environmental Protection Agency said it wants to replace strict Biden-era caps on wastewater released by coal-fired power plants with new ones that give companies flexibility to set their own limits.
This is the administration’s latest effort to boost the nation’s shrinking coal sector. The Energy Department previously announced it would spend up to $525 million to upgrade and build coal-fired power plants. Energy officials have also issued emergency orders to keep open some facilities that were set to retire.
