Vermont consumers would get more control over how companies collect and use their data — with heightened protections for children — under a bill the state legislature approved early Saturday.
Privacy advocates say the measure (H. 121) breaks new ground compared to similar state laws due to provisions such as giving individuals limited rights to sue over violations. Vermont would join 18 other states with laws granting consumers new authority over their personal information if signed by Gov. Phil Scott (R).
