Multiple waves of supply chain disruptions over the past decade have resulted in a couple main lessons — among them, the need for resilience against shocks and multiple options in case one source proves unreliable.

Both are being taught again in the Persian Gulf region, where the closure of the Strait of Hormuz over nearly four months is constricting not just energy but consumer and industrial goods that flow through the region’s ports and free-trade zones, like those operated by DP World in the United Arab Emirates.
