American Airlines Turns to Starlink in Push for Faster Wi-Fi

American Airlines Group Inc. plans to install SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service across more than 500 narrowbody aircraft beginning in early 2027, deepening an industrywide race among carriers to offer faster and more reliable onboard connectivity as they compete for premium travelers.

The rollout will cover much of its domestic and short-haul international fleet, including Airbus SE A321neo and A321XLR aircraft entering the fleet, the Fort Worth, Texas-based airline said Tuesday. The service will use Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite network, which American said is capable of supporting streaming, gaming and video calls.
