The Federal Communications Commission is likely to soon begin granting case-by-case waivers of its new rule that bars the sale of foreign-made Wi-Fi routers in the US.
“No routers or manufacturers have been granted a conditional approval so far, but as the process gets underway, we expect approvals to be granted in a timely manner,” an FCC spokesperson said in a statement to Bloomberg.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said late Monday that the agency would no longer allow foreign-made routers as they may introduce “supply chain vulnerability that could disrupt the US economy, critical infrastructure and national defense.”
