A federal funding freeze ordered by the Trump administration — currently blocked by a federal judge — could roil a $52 billion semiconductor subsidy program if it’s allowed to proceed, according to people familiar with the matter.

Commerce Department officials in charge of implementing the 2022 Chips and Science Act were planning to pause work by the close of business Tuesday due to the Trump administration guidance, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.
