US Says Cartel Drone Prompted Brief El Paso Airspace Closure (1)

The US Federal Aviation Administration reopened airspace around El Paso, Texas, in a sudden reversal after announcing a 10-day closure that grounded flights in the city on the US-Mexico border.

Trump administration officials cited unmanned aircraft activity from Mexican drug cartels for the shutdown. US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Wednesday that the Defense Department and FAA “acted swiftly” to address “a cartel drone incursion.”

“The threat has been neutralized, and there is no danger to commercial travel in the region. The restrictions have been lifted and normal flights are resuming,” Duffy posted on social media.
