Republican Representative Tony Gonzales of Texas announced he will leave Congress, after facing threats from members of his own party to force him out over sexual misconduct.
“When Congress returns tomorrow, I will file my retirement from office,” Gonzales said in a social media post Monday.
His post didn’t specify when his retirement will take effect.

He made the announcement minutes after Democrat Eric Swalwell, who faces sexual assault allegations, declared his intention to resign from Congress. Swalwell has denied the allegations.
