Shale Driller BKV Building Gas-Trading Desk to Remove Middlemen

Natural gas producer BKV Corp. is building out a trading desk as it seeks to cut middlemen from the sales process.

BKV, the largest driller in the Barnett Shale in North Texas, has historically used third-party intermediaries called marketers to sell gas, Chief Executive Officer Chris Kalnin said during an interview. But as the company’s output has grown, nearing 700 million cubic feet a day last year, BKV decided the best course was to bring marketing functions in-house, he said.
