The Australian Tax Office needs additional tools to discourage transfer pricing by tech companies hoping to avoid paying for local news content, the country’s commercial television broadcasters say.
ATO should be given “robust powers” to ensure that the gross revenue generated by multinational tech companies is included when calculating the value of publishing deals under the proposed News Bargaining Incentive, the commercial television industry body FreeTV said in a submission to the Treasury.
