Renaissance Learning Inc. defeated a proposed class action alleging the education-technology provider collected and disclosed the personal information of K-12 students without obtaining consent in violation of federal and state privacy laws.
The plaintiffs failed to adequately plead claims of intrusion upon seclusion, public disclosure of private facts, wiretapping violations under federal and state laws, unjust enrichment, negligence, and violations of consumer-protection laws of California and Wisconsin, Judge Fred W. Slaughter of the US District Court for the Central District of California said Feb. 17.
