A Rhode Island state agency pushed a federal appeals court to block the release of medical records as the Justice Department investigates transgender care at children’s hospitals.
Rhode Island’s Child Advocate, the agency tasked with protecting children’s rights, filed an emergency motion Tuesday asking the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit to block Rhode Island Hospital from turning over records after a federal trial court in Texas ordered their release.
The hospital ultimately agreed to produce some of the records, with patient information anonymized, later Tuesday when the appeals court hadn’t acted on its emergency request.
