Supreme Court Orders Second Argument Over Voting Rights Act

The US Supreme Court said it will hear a new round of arguments on a Louisiana congressional map that created an additional majority-Black voting district.

The court didn’t specify what additional issues it will consider. But some conservative justices have signaled they want to consider taking the far-reaching step of outlawing race-based voting lines altogether.

The court for decades has interpreted the 1965 Voting Rights Act - the landmark law that protects the rights of minorities at the polls – to require the creation of heavily Black or Hispanic voting districts.
