Foreign corporation consumer data collection—especially from firms with Chinese ownership—will be the focus of a first-in-the-nation civil and criminal unit housed in the Florida Attorney General’s Office.
Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) announced the new division Thursday, promising to ramp up subpoenas, investigations, and lawsuits based on violations of state consumer protection laws. His office said health care companies—especially those collecting biometric and demographic data—will be a top priority.
