Senate Confirms Litigator to Longstanding Trial Court Vacancy

The Senate confirmed a litigator who challenges the terms of class action settlements to fill a Louisiana trial court seat that’s been open for more than two years.

The Republican-led chamber voted 51-45 on Tuesday for Donald Trump nominee Anna St. John to join the New Orleans-based Eastern District of Louisiana.

St. John will replace Sarah Vance, a Bill Clinton appointee who created the vacancy in January 2024 by stepping back from active service.

St. John is president and general counsel of the Hamilton Lincoln Law Institute, a nonprofit public-interest firm.
