BGOV OnPoint: Congress Restarts Long-Stalled Farm Bill Process

Key farm and nutrition programs would be reauthorized through 2031 under the latest iteration of the farm bill approved by the House Agriculture Committee on March 5.

The measure (H.R. 7567) builds on Republicans’ efforts in the July 2025 reconciliation law (Public Law 119-21; BGOV Bill Analysis), which reauthorized several farm bill provisions after action on full farm bills stalled in the last few years. The budget reconciliation process limited what could be included, leaving key provisions left to expire starting Sept. 30 after a handful of short-term extensions.
