Colorado AI Law Opponents Press Gov. Polis for Special Session

The tech industry is pressing Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) to call a special legislative session to revamp the state’s law that places curbs on artificial intelligence models after lawmakers didn’t make any changes before adjourning Wednesday.

State lawmakers ended their regular session without changing the 2024 law (S.B. 205) after a compromise measure died this week. The first-in-the-nation law, which goes into effect on Feb. 1, mandates businesses and government agencies proactively assess AI systems for potential bias in finance, employment, and other sectors.
