Democrats’ Generational Shift Stalls as Clyburn, 85, Stays On

Rep. Jim Clyburn, one of the House’s oldest lawmakers, is bucking the trend of octogenarians ceding to widespread calls for generational change at the top of the Democratic Party.

Clyburn, an 85-year-old South Carolina Democrat, appropriator, and former member of House leadership, announced Thursday he’ll seek another term. He’ll be the last serving member of the party’s longtime leadership trio, with Reps. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) heading for the exits.
