Democrats Set Stage for a Near Wipeout of House GOP in Virginia

Democrats in Virginia and Maryland are trying to defeat nearly every Republican representative in their states and give their party a huge 18-1 advantage in the House delegations.

Virginia Democratic legislators’ new congressional map could help elect Democrats in as many as 10 of the state’s 11 districts in a state Kamala Harris won by 6 percentage points over President Donald Trump, though the proposal still faces hurdles to enactment.

Democrats said an aggressive partisan gerrymander was needed to counteract mid-decade redistricting initiated in Texas and other Republican states with Trump’s support.
