The Senate is looking to move a long-delayed farm bill passed by the House, though it could still face lingering challenges over a push for year-round sales of higher-ethanol fuel and other contentious issues.
The House approved the farm bill Thursday despite opposition from most Democrats and some Republicans. It’s the first farm bill package (H.R. 7567) to pass a congressional chamber since 2018, when the last farm bill was enacted. Lawmakers have opted for one-year extensions since the bill expired in 2023.
