House Delays Aviation Safety Measure as Stand-off Continues

The House is delaying action on an aviation safety measure following criticism that it wouldn’t adequately address the circumstances that led to a 2025 midair collision between an Army helicopter and a passenger jet that killed 67 people.

Transportation Committee Chair Sam Graves (R-Mo.) had planned to move the proposed ALERT Act this week after a rival, Senate-approved bill called the ROTOR Act (S. 2503) failed on the House floor last week by one vote.

Graves, Armed Services Committee Chair Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), and the ranking Democrats on those panels played key roles in defeating the Senate’s bill. ...
