House Republicans said they will expedite a bipartisan aviation safety bill after a rival measure failed to clear the chamber more than one year after a midair collision between an Army helicopter and a passenger jet near Washington, DC, killed 67 people.
Divisions among top Republicans helped sink the Tuesday vote on the bipartisan Senate-passed ROTOR Act (S. 2503). That legislation would mandate aircraft nationwide use Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast technology to prevent similar incidents, but it failed to gain the two-thirds support necessary to pass the House under suspended rules.
