The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee plans to move a five-year surface transportation reauthorization that would devote $580 billion to roads, bridges, transit, and other infrastructure, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Committee members will assess draft language at a Thursday mark-up before other panels in the House and Senate deliberate the traditionally bipartisan legislation with permitting reform, transit funding, and potential fees on electric vehicles among top issues. The 2021 infrastructure law authorized $550 million in spending on new transportation projects.
