Maryland Democrats’ Redistricting Bid Outweighs Risk, Hoyer Says

Maryland’s state Senate should take up a congressional map favoring Democrats in all eight districts because it’s worth the risk with Donald Trump as president, former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said at an exclusive Bloomberg Government roundtable event Thursday.

The state House of Delegates overwhelmingly passed new lines Feb. 2 that would make it easier to oust Rep. Andy Harris, Maryland’s only Republican in Congress. But state Senate President Bill Ferguson (D) opposes the effort as unconstitutional and politically risky, saying a new map could backfire on Democrats by putting one or two districts within striking range of Republicans. ...
