NY Democrats Seek New Voting Lines, With Midterm Payoff in Doubt

New York lawmakers announced plans Tuesday to change the state Constitution so they can redraw congressional lines, but any partisan benefits aren’t likely until 2028 at the earliest.

The proposed amendment comes as the Texas Legislature considers overhauling congressional lines at the behest of President Donald Trump (R), an effort that could help them gain as many as five seats next year. Other GOP states could follow as the parties vie for control of the narrowly divided chamber.
