NY Worker AI Protections to Sunset in 2028 Under Hochul Changes
A major part of New York’s new law governing the use of AI in state agencies has an expiration date. Bloomberg Government has learned that under a last-minute deal Gov. Kathy Hochul struck to sign the legislation, a worker protection policy that restricts the state from replacing workers with AI will sunset in July of 2028. And state agencies won’t have to test how the technology might undermine New Yorkers’ civil liberties before deploying it. The law takes effect in January.
