Republicans Select Garbarino as Homeland Security Chairman (1)

Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.) will lead the House Homeland Security Committee after beating three colleagues in a tight race for the influential panel’s gavel.

Republicans voted to approve Garbarino as chairman during a conference meeting Tuesday, following a late Monday vote by the House Steering Committee backing the New York Republican. The other contenders were Reps. Carlos Giménez (Fla.), Michael Guest (Miss.), and Clay Higgins (La.).
