Senate Democrats Focus on Long-Term Home Care in Health Agenda

Senate Democrats proposed Wednesday to bolster long-term care coverage in Medicaid and Medicare as part of their policy platform should Democrats regain power in Washington.

Senate Finance Committee ranking member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) led 16 other Senate Democrats in a letter to colleagues laying out broad goals for nursing homes and home-based services that minority committee staff will focus on.

The move—which he previewed last week—is part of Democrats’ efforts to sharply contrast their policies with those of President Donald Trump, whose 2025 tax law enacted large cuts to Medicaid.
