Tech companies and industry groups are lobbying Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) to veto legislation that would impose the most sweeping statewide restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence in the private sector.
Companies in Colorado would have to assess their AI high-risk systems so they do not enable discrimination in areas such as hiring and disclose the data used for training their models under the measure (S.B. 205).
Polis must act by June 7. The state House of Representatives passed the bill on May 8 by a 54-9 vote and the Senate unanimously approved it.
