The House Ways and Means Committee is planning a March 4 hearing with IRS CEO Frank Bisignano, according to multiple sources familiar with the panel’s plans.
Bisignano, who is running day-to-day operations at the agency, is expected to discuss implementation of the 2025 GOP tax law and the ongoing tax filing season, the sources said. A time for the hearing with Bisignano, who splits his time between the IRS and serving as commissioner of the Social Security Administration, has not yet been announced.
Republicans have said they’re eager to get more details on how the new tax law passed last year is impacting taxpayers this filing season, and touted that average refund amounts have so far exceeded last year’s.
Bisignano is likely to receive tough questions from Democrats. Lawmakers in the party have pressed the IRS about topics including its acknowledgment of inappropriate oversharing of some immigrants’ address information with the Department of Homeland Security and a sharp drop in criminal investigations into abusive tax schemes.
Bisignano is overseeing the agency as it overhauls its top leadership roster and deals with the loss of roughly a quarter of its workforce since President Donald Trump began his second term. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent named Bisignano to the newly created CEO role in October, while Bessent serves as acting IRS commissioner.
