The judge overseeing an upcoming trial of Chicago-area anti-ICE protesters agreed to look at previously redacted portions of grand jury transcripts, a topic defense attorneys in the case have repeatedly pressed.
Judge April Perry has already seen a partially redacted version of the transcripts and said Monday that, as far as she could tell, the blacked-out lines apparently had to do with technological problems. Lawyers for the defendants have suggested there could have been improprieties at the grand jury that might contaminate the case.
Prosecutors didn’t object Monday to having Perry review the portions that had previously been redacted. ...
