Colorado Social Media Law Pressures Teenagers to Stop Scrolling

Colorado teens will receive pop-up notices on social media urging them to stop scrolling under a law signed Thursday by Gov. Jared Polis (D).

The law (HB 24-1136) is a narrower approach in state efforts to regulate social media to address youth mental health and other concerns. The measure focuses on education around safe internet use rather than requiring parental permission for minors online, which Florida and Tennessee enacted earlier this year. The tech industry has sued several states over their teen social media restrictions.
